A teen boy was allegedly raped in Ikageng on Sunday after accompanying his friend to her boyfriend.
According to Const. Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, the 34-year-old suspect was arrested for the crime at 20:30 on Monday and is still in police custody.
The boy alleges that he and a female friend were watching television at his sister’s house on Sunday. ‘At about 22:00, the friend’s boyfriend called to say they should meet up in one of the streets. He and his 34-year-old male friend (the suspect) had been drinking together and were planning to continue the partying at the suspect’s house. The friends met up, put on the music upon their arrival and continued drinking.
After about 30 minutes, the victim said he wanted to go to sleep and the suspect offered him his bed to go and have a lie-down. While he was sleeping, the other three went and joined him in the room. The suspect took off his clothes and raped the screaming, terrified teen in the presence of the young couple.
The victim’s 19-year-old sister says she is ‘horrified and shattered’ by the terrible ordeal that her younger brother was put through. ‘We are also disgusted at the suspect’s mother who did not apologise when she saw us at the police station. She cursed us, saying we would get what we deserve.’
The sister says that, instead of showing remorse for his actions, the suspect chose to deny any guilt, despite there being two eyewitness accounts against him. ‘We don’t want him to get bail because he does not deserve to be in society,’ she said.
The boy’s brother-in-law says justice must take its course. He said he did not want to take the law into his own hands as he has faith in the justice system. He adds that he feels responsible as the teenager was visiting them from Carletonville for the school holidays. ‘I’m distraught…. We love him dearly and did not want anything to happen to him, now this? he said angrily.
