From Monday, 8 August to Saturday, 13 August scientists will be bringing their brains together at the National Science Week in Potchefstroom. The theme for this year’s Science Week is “Science for Sustainable Development and Improved Quality of Life”.
The National Science Week is hosted by the North-West University Potchefstroom Campus’ Science Centre and is proudly sponsored by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA).
The science centre invites all staff, students and learners to attend this innovative week of scientific wonders.
With regard to the proceedings of the National Science Week, different time slots have been allocated for the various activities as most of the other activities will take place off-campus.
Public lectures and science shows will take place on the following dates at the allocated venues:
Monday, 8 August: Govan Mbeki Hall, Ikageng (12:00 – 14:00)
Tuesday, 9 August: Ikageng Gate Shopping Centre (12:00 – 14:00)
Thursday, 11 August: Visit four homes for the elderly in Potchefstroom (09:00 – 15:00)
Friday, 12 August: Promosa Community Hall (12:00 – 14:00)
Wednesday, 10 August
NWU Campus (see venues below)
1.Visit to the science centre
Explore more than 100 exhibits and experiments in your own time.
2.Visit to the botanical gardens
Discover various plant species.
3.Indigenous Knowledge and Zoology Museum
Exhibits and presentations.
4.Hydrogen Fuel Cell Research Centre
Presentations and interaction with unit staff.
5.Career guidance in science centre lecture room
Career guidance topics.
