One woman allegedly raped at ex lover’s home, another at the stadium

A man allegedly raped his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend at gunpoint at about 18:00 last Friday.
According to the Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom, the victim reported that the suspect had agreed to meet her in town to return her driver’s licence that he had forcibly taken from her during a quarrel the previous night.
When she arrived, the accused claimed that he had left it at home and asked the woman to accompany him to Ext. 11 to pick it up. At his house, they started arguing and he produced a firearm and ordered her to strip down. He then placed the firearm on top of the fridge and proceeded to rape her.
In another incident at 05:30 on Sunday morning, a 22-year-old woman is believed to have been raped by her ‘rescuer’ after three males threatened her with knives near the basketball court at the Ikageng stadium and demanded her cell phone. As she was resisting, another male came from out of nowhere and helped her. The two fled and found somewhere to hide but, when they got there, he started kicking her and assaulted her with his fists until she lost consciousness.
A taxi driver later rescued the woman as she was walking home from the crime scene. It was only when she got into the vehicle that she noticed that she was not wearing her trousers. The victim sustained injuries to her head.
Trom says the four suspects, in this case, are still at large but the police investigation is well underway. Once again, she stressed the importance of not walking near the stadium at night as it is a notorious crime hotspot.
“Women should take full responsibility for their well-being, especially after consuming alcohol. They should never walk home alone and should not hang out in pubs until the wee hours of the morning.
They are also warned not trust anyone who offers to take them home,” she said.
On a positive note, however, she commended the taxi driver who res-cued the victim after her ordeal.
