Fed up with the sky-high incidence of burglaries in Ikageng, community members arrested three burglars in Sarafina at about 10:40 last Friday.
According to the Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Kelebogile Trom, two South Africans aged 31 and 33 respectively, and one 30-year-old foreign national met their fate after brave community members stopped their bakkie. They discovered a television set and several remote controls in their possession, presumed to be stolen property.
Trom says the trio are believed to have committed other burglaries in the recent spate of break-ins in the township.
They have been remanded in custody and will appear in court again next Monday.
Trom applauded the community for apprehending the suspects but cau-tioned individuals against assaulting the suspect/s when making a citizen’s arrest.
“We appreciate the partnership they have with the police in fighting crime in their areas. They must continue to inform the police of any criminal activities in their areas and should never buy stolen goods. They should rather report those selling the goods to the police,” she said.
