A 50-year-old man was arrested in Ikageng at 22:00 on Monday for allegedly raping his 27-year-old girlfriend.

According to Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng police spokesperson, the alleged rapist is in custody in the Potchefstroom prison cells.
The complainant said she and her boyfriend were relaxing at a stadium with friends at about 23:00 on Sunday when the couple started arguing.
“The boyfriend was unhappy about what he saw on the girlfriend’s phone,” said Trom. “They decided to go home and she went straight to bed. The boy-friend stayed up with his friend until 01:30 when he walked him halfway home.”
When he returned, he woke her up and demanded sex.
“The girlfriend refused, and that’s when the boyfriend lost it. He forcefully threw the blankets on the ground and raped her. They slept next to each other and, later that morning, the boyfriend left and took her cell phone with. The woman then went to the police station to report the rape,” Trom explained.
WO Ishmael Mohutsiwa was at pains to emphasise that having sex without your partner’s permission is a crime.
“No one has the right to force the other to have sex against their will. Perpetrators will be arrested and jailed for a long time,” he warned.
