Izelle van Vuuren, born and bred in Potchefstroom, is a finalist in the Miss United Continents South Africa beauty pageant that will be held in Johannesburg on 28 May. The winner will then represent the country in Guayaquil, Ecuador in August this year.
This year will be the first time that South Africa is being represented in the international final. The pageant is a platform for the finalists to become a charity and cultural ambassadors who aim to empower women to become the best version of themselves.
Izelle, who is currently an assistant teacher at Platinum Models, says she is honoured to have been given this opportunity.
Which course are you studying and what made you decide on that career path?
I’m currently studying microbiology and physiology at the NWU – Potch campus. I want to specialise in cardiovascular physiology. I’ve always been interested in the medical field and feel that, with this career, I can make a huge difference in someone’s life.
If you could choose to meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Rolene Strauss. She is an intelligent, beautiful and inspiring woman. She has achieved so much in her year as Miss World and has made a difference in so many lives. Yet, through it all, she was able to remain humble.
Which woman do you look up to most, and why?
I definitely look up to my mother. She is kind, compassionate and exactly what I wish to be. She always has a solution to every problem and puts everyone else’s needs above her own.
What do you consider to be your biggest strengths?
I believe that my dedication, perseverance and my positive mindset and attitude are some of my biggest strengths.
What is your motto in life?
My motto in life is: Dare to be different.
What is the most important thing you expect you’ll take away from your whole experience?
I am getting to do something totally different. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and I’m definitely going to learn a lot on this journey.
What are your hobbies?
Some of my hobbies are netball, crossFit and scrapbooking.
