Potch hospital seeks public’s help in locating patient’s family

Potchefstroom Hospital is seeking public assistance in locating the family of a homeless patient admitted for hypoglycemia and PTB.

Potchefstroom Hospital is reaching out to the community for assistance in locating the family of Molefi Sebitla, a homeless patient under their care since 3 August 2024. Molefi Sebitla, born on 4 September 1982, was admitted to the hospital due to hypoglycemia and pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and has been residing in Ward 9 since his recent re-admission.

Originally discharged on 18 August 2024, Sebitla returned to the hospital shortly thereafter, stating that he is homeless and unable to recall his family or home address. Despite efforts by hospital social workers to assist him, including an interview on 19August 2024, Sebitla could not provide any details about his previous address or family members.

A call-in letter was sent to an address listed in Sebitla’s file on 26 August 2024, but it was later found to be incorrect. On 28 August 2024, a social worker accompanied Sebitla to the Department of Home Affairs, where his fingerprints were taken to help verify his identity. However, feedback from Home Affairs is expected to take up to three months.

Potchefstroom Hospital is urging anyone with information about Molefi Sebitla’s identity or family to come forward. The hospital hopes that with public assistance, they can reunite Sebitla with his loved ones.

If you have any information or can assist in this matter, please contact Potchefstroom Hospital at 018 293 4400 or visit the hospital’s social work department directly. Your help could make a significant difference in the life of this vulnerable individual.
