Ferdinand Postma High School wore festive shoes last weekend as it hosted its first-ever Mexican fiesta.

It was a truly festive evening.

The school fundraiser happened at Ferdies on 11 May 2024. The school embodied the theme through decor, games, food and entertainment. With fires, cactuses and sombreros everywhere, things got festive right away.

The fiesta started with a party train visiting different stops with Mexican tasters for the guests. It was one of the many highlights for guests, and it was evident that they had a great time going to the different stops while vibing to music. After the taste train clocked in at the station, guests spent the rest of the night eating, dancing and playing games in the new, beautifully decorated shed on Ferdies’ school grounds.

The starters were nachos with sour cream, jalapeno, guacamole and salsa, stimulating an appetite for the main course – chicken and cheese quesadillas and beef tacos. Afterwards, a tasty pudding awaited. Besides a huge bar, there was a coffee station that served free coffee all night long!

The Gingersnaps and GP Van Rheede Van Oudtshoorn, as the emcee, entertained the guests throughout the night.

Lucky draws, a fun game or two to win hampers, and a silent auction for a midweek getaway added to the already festive atmosphere. Mrs Carin Roux, who played a huge role in organising the fiesta, said this was Ferdies’ biggest fundraiser event since the school no longer hosted the Spring Festival (Lentefees).

The fiesta did more than raise funds with its fun activities – it also raised the bar for other fundraiser events in town.
