Lions thrash Dragons at the J.B. Marks Oval

A Lions side featuring 7 Proteas were too clinical for a Dragons team who performed well under par

It was a poor day at the office for the North West Dragons in their first home match of the CSA T20 Challenge when they went down by 9-wickets against an excellent Lions side on Sunday, 10 March.

The Dragons won the toss and batted first, but only managed to score 103 all out in a disappointing batting display.

Dragons captain, Senuran Muthusamy with 33 from 26 balls was the top scorer for the Dragons in a stop-start innings where no sustainable partnerships could be built.

The top bowlers for the Lions were their spinners, Junaid Dawood (3/23) and Bjorn Fortuin (2/14). SA u.19 youngster, Kwena Maphaka (2/11) also shone for the Lions.

Reeza Hendricks hit a superb 57 as he effortlessly helped chase down a low score.
Temba Bavuma hits a reverse sweep for the Lions.
Meeka-eel Prince hits a drive.

The bowling was also below par from the hosts, who struggled to contain the Lions opener, Reeza Hendricks (57* off 30 balls) and Ryan Rickleton (34 off 26 balls). Bamanye Xenxe (1/22) took the only wicket for the Dragons.

The Lions managed to hit the winning runs 9.2 overs to spare. The manner in which the winning runs were scored illustrated the Lions’ dominance – a towering six into the stand from Hendricks to finish off the game.

Reeza Hendricks picked up the wicket of Rubin Hermann.
Senuran Muthusamy top scored for the Dragons with 33.
Lutho Sipamla was back in action for the Lions.
