Ferdinand Postma High School brought the famous quote “Let’s turn and burn” to life with their Top Gun themed Mr and Ms Ferdies event.
The learners dressed to impress and took the audience on a flight around the world by displaying different countries and cultures through their outfits.
Louis Janse van Rensburg as Master of Ceremonies (MC) engaged the audience in endless laughter throughout the night. Louis is the Senior Specialist in Development and Fundraising at North-West University (NWU) where his primary role involves fundraising for bursaries and sponsorships.
Louis is an undercover Ferdie having previously taught at Ferdies from 2013 to 2018.
Although the audience had their favourites, it was the judges who ultimately determined the winners.
Zachary van Bemmel and Aninka Muller won the titles Mr and Ms Personality, with Kieran Louw and Janeal Van Wyk as Mr and Ms Photogenic.
Deane Kooyman and Willem Hartzenberg stole the hearts of the audience with their unmistakable chemistry and walked away with the title as ‘Best Couple’.
Deane Kooyman was awarded 2nd Princess, El-Chante Gordon as 1st Princess and head girl Zinei Reynders as Ms Ferdies 2024.
Gym junkie Dillan Roodt was awarded 2nd Prince with audience-favourite Cameron Scholtz as 1st Prince. Johan Kriek walked away with the title Mr Ferdies 2024.
The judges for the evening were:
· Annelize Denobile, owner of A&E Wedding and Function Decor.
· Annamarie Schutte, owner of Smart Guy and Smart Bride.
· Johan Balt, third year law student and part of the duo-band ‘Die Piesangskille’.
· Charles Monaheng, owner of Charles Fitness Gym with the following titles; Mr Africa 2014 and 2015, King of the universe 2014 and 2015, Mr Pageant SA 2014 and 2015, Mr King of the Nile 2014 and 2015, Mr S.A top Model 2014 and 2015, Mr Beach body 2014 and 2015.
· De Wet Coertzen, known as ‘DJ Get Loud’, is a music producer at “Universal Music”, House of Hustle in London and UFO Records in Sweden. He started a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the NWU this year .
