NWU I the big favourite against Potch Dorp in Premier A-league clash

NWU 1 recently completed wins against Taurus and Ibbies this past week.

NWU 1 continued their impressive form in the NW Club Cricket Premier A league this past week with two commanding victories.

The first was a 59-run victory against NWU Taurus on Tuesday, 6 February, followed with a convincing 160-run victory against Ibbies on Wednesday, 7 February.

Against Taurus, the NWU managed to turn a batting collapse into a comfortable win.

NWU 1 left-hander, Heinrigh Pieterse was in sparkling form, as he hit a fine 63 (60 balls) when his side needed it the most.

Pieterse saw his team sink to 83/6 before Larno Botha came to the crease. Botha made 68 (74 balls) in a 90-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

Larno Botha hit a half-century for NWU 1 against Taurus.

This gave the NWU 1 the impetus they needed to make 229 all out.

Taurus’ top bowlers were Muizz Shaikh (2/26) and Neo Matsoso (2/28).

In reply, Taurus crumbled under the pressure in the chase as they were bowled out for 170.

Botha (2/40) and Pieterse (3/27) proved to be match winners with the ball in hand. Conrad van Dyk with (2/40) also impressed for NWU 1.

Against Ibbies, NWU 1 put their foot down against the second first’s as their bowlers skittled them out for 106 in 25.3 overs.

Luhan van Niekerk with 5/17 and Edumisa Dlulemnyango (4/44) tore into the Ibbies batsmen. Earlier on, NWU I made 266 all out. Conrad van Dyk (57 off 63 balls) and Franco Bester (58 off 65 balls) both scored valuable half-centuries.

Taurus had previously also beaten Potch Dorp 1 by 6 wickets in convincing fashion on Saturday, 3 February at the Ibbies Oval. Potch Dorp were bowled out for only 125.

Here are the fixtures for this weekend action in the NW Club Cricket Premier A-League.

Potch Dorp 1 will take on rivals NWU 1 next on Saturday, 10 February at the NWU Oval in what should be an interesting clash. On paper, it looks like the students will be too strong, but things might click into gear for Potch Dorp, who are yet to register a win in the 50-over format this year.
