Private school focuses on academic performance and character building

Value-driven education is what learners get at Study Xpress, a private school that opened its doors in 2016.
It started as an extra-class centre, where learners got help with English, Mathematics, Life Science, Physical Science and Natural Science. A few months later, it was provisionally registered as a private school, teaching the CAPS curriculum for Gr. R–12 learners. The NW Department of Education has since fully registered StudyXpress. Other major education bodies also recognise it as an independent school that provides quality education. In 2016, the school had only seven pupils but it has now grown to facilitate 59 learners. The executive manager of the school, Martin Botha, says their philosophy is based on the values of the Bible and they strive to remind their learners to keep 2 Timothy 1:7 in mind – “You have not been given a spirit of fear, but of love, power and of a sound mind.”
Martin says the staff are there to help the learners to go beyond their fears to reach their dreams.” The primary school (Gr. R to Gr. 6) is based at 9 Stil Street. The high school (learners from Gr. 7 to 12) is situated at 11 Luke Street. The medium of instruction for all grades (R–12) is English and Afrikaans, depending on the parents’ preference. The Gr. R and Gr. 1 learners share the same class and follow the Montessori programme. “This is a more practical teaching method and we get very positive results from the learners”, he adds.
“From Gr. 10 to 12, we challenge the status quo. We see a need for learners to finish school with a steadfast, sound character and self-discipline in their work ethic. We expect them to face up to the challenges that are common to “adult life”, like handling pressure and anxiety, while making academic progress within a safe learning environment.
“More than conquerors” is an ethos and belief that we challenge ourselves with, and so, too, the learners.
“We can achieve greater things when our focus is on God’s purpose for us,” he adds. To apply for enrolment at StudyXpress, the parents must fill out documents and the learner and their parents will be interviewed. For more information, visit www.studyxpress.co.za.
