Red My Lips campaign empowers women in Potch

On Wednesday 27 April Curves Potchefstroom hosted a Zumba Marathon for the second time as part of the Red My Lips campaign.

Hundreds of women of all ages came together in solidarity against women abuse.
Rape victim, Santi Britz was also there to support the cause that she holds so close to her heart.
Led by a Zumba instructor, they worked up a sweat as they Zumba-ed for a whole hour.
Although the event was, like last year, very successful, the organiser Monya Greyvenstein realises that it is going to take a lot more than an hour of Zumba workout to ever change the reality of the situation. “Sexual abuse is so very prevalent among us,” she says. “This might encourage one victim to become a survivor or set the motion for a thousand to speak up. We will never be sure, but I refuse to get discouraged”.
Monya says the biggest asset a sex-offender has is the silence of the victim, so the Red
My Lips Zumba marathon offered everything but silence. With loud music, people moving and red lips speaking out, they made sure every woman’s voice has power.
“Because, if our voices had no power, they wouldn’t have tried to silence us,” says Monya.
