NWU hosts stellar annual Ser 2024 competition

The North-West University (NWU) has once again dazzled with its vibrant annual Ser 2024 singing and performing competition. Held from August 21 to 23, this year’s event showcased the impressive talents of the university’s hostels and residences, featuring a variety of performances in multiple categories.

Overall Winners

In a thrilling display of talent, Patria emerged as the overall winner of the competition, captivating the audience with their exceptional performances across various categories. Patria’s dominance was underscored by their strong showing in both the multi-lingual and male residence categories. The competition, which also recognized excellence in individual categories, saw Patria securing top positions in multiple events.

Dinki, known for their engaging and dynamic performances, was crowned the overall winner in the multi-lingual category. Their ability to blend diverse linguistic elements into a cohesive and entertaining performance earned them high praise.

Category Highlights

The multi-lingual category was fiercely contested, with Dinki claiming first place, followed by Patria in second. Wag-‘n-Bietjie secured third place, while Veritas took fourth. Excelcior and Laureus rounded out the top five with a joint fifth-place finish.

In the prescribed song category, Patria and Veritas shared the top spot, reflecting their strong interpretations of the prescribed pieces. Dinki achieved third place, with Oosterhof and Wag-‘n-Bietjie taking fourth and fifth places, respectively.

The own composition category saw Dinki leading the way with a standout original composition. Veritas followed in second place, with Laureus and Oosterhof sharing the fourth spot.

The theme category celebrated creativity and originality, with Scots emerging as the winner. Florists secured the second spot, and Olympian Monks completed the top three.

Residence Winners

Among male residences, Patria was the undeniable champion, followed by Veritas in second place and Heimat in third. Excelsior and Laureus rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth places, respectively.

On the female side, Wag-‘n-Bietjie took top honors, showcasing their impressive talents. Bellatrix followed in second place, with Dinki achieving third. Oosterhof and Kasteel completed the female residence top five.

The NWU Ser 2024 competition once again highlighted the incredible talent within the student body, celebrating the diverse and rich cultural contributions of each residence. With such outstanding performances, the event continues to be a testament to the creative spirit thriving at NWU.
