One of the biggest musical talents on the SA landscape comes in the form of the gifted and gracious Nhlanhla Majozi, or Majozi, as he is best known.
His hit singles have reverberated on local radio stations for the past couple of years and his two full albums, Fire and Majozi have been met with critical acclaim.
His genre is filled with foot-stomping electro Indie Pop that will leave you singing and dancing along to each beat. A fantastic mix of electronic and acoustic elements creates the platform for Majozi’s powerful, positive lyrics and vocals to truly shine through.
Here are my favourite tracks:
5. The Greatest Love
We kick off the countdown with one of Majozi’s top tracks that focuses on our Father;’s love for us ̶̶ the greatest love we can fathom or experience from our creator.
The lyrics are beautiful and showcase Majozi’s heart for music, Jesus and the people in the world in spreading a positive message of hope and victory. ‘There is something about the way that the light touches your skin and everything within feels right it doesn’t matter who you are what you’ve done, or where you’ve been. He is so much greater than sin. We’ll be alright.’
The guitar, synth elements and the female backing vocals in this track add something special. The hummed na na na’ chorus is also a personal highlight and this melody will stick in your head. You cannot be negative after hearing this track.

4. Fire
‘When the fire’s coming down, we can always take it higher, we always come undone, rising up, rising up, would you come and fill my cup, could you come and fill it up?’ sings Majozi in this scintillating number.
It focuses on motivation and inspiration and how they come from within through Jesus.
There is a need to rise up and get on fire for the one that gave you passion and inspiration.
‘My soul is rising up, my mind is rising to the top. You raise me up and I won’t stop till I’m on fire for you!’ sings Majozi in the acoustic-based melody that is most uplifting, captivating and dancy in the same breath. There is some fantastic guitar work that genuinely exudes warmth.

3. Breathing
‘We all have problems, we all have worries that we wish we could cast out into the sea. All these problems, yeah all our worries make us who we should be.’
This is how this track from Majozi opens up with the emphasis on remaining positive and breathing through the difficult times.
The electric guitar is exceptional and I love the slick bass line in the background, which gives the song some extra punch.
The chorus is an absolute gem with Majozi singing ‘hey now, who cares what they say now, keep dreaming. When you’re stuck in the middle and it feels like your life is a riddle, darling just keep breathing.’
The ohhh wooah parts are typically contagious and this is a great track to sing along to, especially at a live show.

2. Waiting
Last year started brilliantly for Majozi, who gave his adoring fans this single to lend their ears to this honest, endearing track about love and the trust involved in giving your heart to someone to protect and love with the risk of it being broken.
It definitely resonates with the C.S. Lewis quote, ‘To love is to vulnerable.’
The electronic-based sound is a shift from Majozi’s debut album but it works well with its pop-influenced beats and rhythms that are currently used in the industry to great effect. The lyrics: ‘Sometimes, I think I see an open door but I don’t go in because I’ve been here before.
‘mI’ve been waiting for you all my life, you’ve been running through my dreams at night, I’ve been searching for the longest time. Tell me, darling, when will you be mine?’ sings Majozi in the chorus of this track that looks at the troubles of leaving fear behind and following your heart in finding someone you love.

1. Darling
In my opinion, this endearing track is one of Majozi’s best. It focuses on finding the love of your life and enjoying the special moments you share.
This is also a love song that focuses on the unique aspects every individual brings to the table in a relationship.
The candid piano and xylophone intro, together with the folk-like acoustic guitar elements create a truly magnificent sound in conjunction with Majozi’s-velvet voice.
‘All my life I’ve been searching for your love
Only to find it’s been staring right in front of me
Right where I could see
‘Sometimes life taste just like a bitter pill
Hard to swallow but easy when I’m full of you
And all those things you do.’
One of the most beautiful and best-known tracks from Majozi, it showcases just how sweet love is.
