On this day in history: Popular comedian Bill Flynn dies at age 58

On 11 July, 9 years ago, actor Bill Flynn passed away... see the video of him in his glory days.

On 11 July 2007, South African actor Bill Flynn, 58, passed away, allegedly due to a heart attack. Flynn was born on 13 December 1948 and was educated at Plumstead High School in Cape Town, and the University of Cape Town (UCT) Drama School.

Flynn was a well-respected actor in the South African entertainment industry and was well known for his roles in local movies such as Heel Against the Head and Running Riot, and his role as Willie Loman in the South African production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman.

His highly successful career also included leading roles in more than 140 stage plays, musicals, 42 films, dozens of TV shows and thousands of radio and TV commercials. Flynn was the recipient of many acting awards, including the Dublin Critics and Golden Entertainer Awards. Flynn also sang in a band, “The Rock Rebels”, and was married to actress Jana Celliers, his second wife.

11 July was also the day that the Battle of Silkaatsnek begins in 1900, the Sharpville Six narrowly escaped executions in 1988 and the first black test cricket captain in SA was announced in 2006.
