DVD of the week: Spectre

6/10 for Spectre...

In the thrilling 24th James Bond film, Bond (Daniel Craig) receives a message from the past that sets him on an unauthorised witch-hunt through Mexico City and Rome, where he kills four men plotting a terrorist bombing.
Suspended from the mission, he decides to return to Rome to attend the funeral of one of his victims and he meets the beautiful widow, Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), fearing for her life after Bond killed her assassin husband.
It is only when he infiltrates a secret meeting that Bond discovers that, even though he has been suspended, his mission is not yet over. There, he uncovers the existence of an ominous organisation called ‘Spectre’.
In this action film, Bond finds himself allying up with the daughter (Léa Seydoux) of one of his former enemies with the intention of infiltrating Spectre and putting an end to their sinister acts that mobilise terrorist attacks around the world.
But, the chilling truth that he discovers after that is that there is a connection between himself and the enemy (Christoph Waltz) he means to destroy.
This is Daniel Craig’s 4th performance as agent 007 and probably one of his best. As he rebels against the agency to undertake a one-man mission in destroying Spectre.
The movie is filled with action-packed scenes, thrilling fights and, of course, beautiful women, which are always a 007 favourite.
*Spectre has an age restriction of PG13 and contains scenes of violence*
I would rate this movie 6/10. The action is, as expected from a Bond movie, non-stop and exciting but, in the end, it all leads up to… basically nothing.
The end of the movie wasn’t what I would have expected, but it was still just further proof that Daniel Craig has been the best James Bond up to now.
Spectre is available for rent at DVD4home on the corner of Retief and Govan Mbeki streets.
