From my Diary: New Dad; The little man is a hipster

I can’t believe that our little man is getting into fashion. It seems a little strange because, as his father, I am the least fashion-conscious person I know.

I can’t believe that our little man is getting into fashion. It seems a little strange because, as his father, I am the least fashion-conscious person I know.
On the other hand, he has three aunts who are obviously all about the fashion. Even his uncle, my brother, is a bit of a fashionista. As the first grandchild and nephew, Aiden has been spoilt rotten and, with a group of aunts and uncles who really think about what they wear, the obvious choice for presents is clothes.
Now I don’t mind all the presents it just means I have to buy less although I do wish they would buy more nappies, but it’s the choice of clothes that sometimes vexes me. My wife was dressing Aiden for school the other day. When she was done, I looked at him and thought, if you had to slap a pair of non-prescription, thick-framed glasses on him, he would be the quintessential hipster.
Yes, I know. I said I am not bothered about fashion, but the whole hipster movement is something I can’t come to grips with. I understand the hippies of the 60s more than hipsters at least they gave us good music like Jimi Hendrix. All that hipsters gave us was Dubstep.
I console myself with the fact that he doesn’t choose his own clothes yet, so his fashion is actually just an extension of his extended family. I like to think I would support him in all his choices, yet this fashion scenario just reminds me that I might not support his bad choices. Like, if he decides to support the Bulls or Chelsea or thinks cats are better than dogs.
