They say fashion is subjective, that these days people can wear what they want and get away with it. The Herald had a discussion with people in the know, and there are some fashion crimes that Potchefstromers are guilty of.

1. Flops and Socks

This is not just a fashion crime but a crime against humanity. Please, we need this to stop before more people start following this trend.

In short it is NEVER okay to wear socks with flip flops or sandals. NEVER. End of discussion.

2. Jenackie

Jeans and tekkies=Jenackie

It’s the worst fashion mistake ever, just stop. People will judge you for it. It sounds harsh, but in all fairness, you are choosing to wear this combo. Girls will write-off guys simply because they are wearing ugly shoes. It shows them that you have a major lack of style, and could even portray a low self-esteem or flat out cluelessness. For girls, it looks like you are lacking major style (aka homely and/or dumpy). It’s also kind of embarrassing in public.

3. Barefoot

If you are on the beach, you can be forgiven for this fashion sin. But going to pubs,  doing your grocery shopping or going to class barefoot is not a fashion statement, you look like a hobo.  People will not be thinking that you are a free spirit for walking around barefoot, they will think that you are weird.

It is fine for children under the age of 12, surfers and beachgoers to walk around barefoot for everyone else wear something on your feet. It’s not very much work to slip on some flip flops.

4. Gladiators over jeans/leggings

Gladiator sandals are meant to be worn as a summer sandal, if you are cold enough to wear long trousers or leggings then wear appropriate shoes.

Hell no

This is an example of how not to wear gladiator sandals

Yes please

This is how these sandals are meant to be worn.

5. PT Shorts

Nothing good has ever come from wearing PT Shorts, if you’re not doing PT, which is short for Physical Training, don’t wear PT shorts ever. Why would you wear PT shorts to a restaurant? Or out to a club? Or to have a drink with friends? It makes no sense there will be no physical training involved in any of these situations. Finally, PT shorts when not training makes you look like an idiot, whether you know or not, everyone is judging the choice that you made when you decided it was fine to wear those shorts.
