Ultimate frisbee returns to Potchefstroom after months of being shut down due to COVID-19. This return came following the Elevation committee’s persistent attempts to restart the sport now in the lower levels of lockdown. A process that has been operational for months.
When the tipping point came, one of the Elevation founding members, Andrew Wallis, made the public enquiry regarding interest around the sport as a fun, social activity. On the very same day, attraction raised to a level acceptable enough for the event to resume. In order for the games to take place, strict coronavirus regulations are enforced by the organising party as they urge players to bring their own hand sanitizers and facemasks. The first occasion has already taken place on Tuesday 15 September at the Potch Dorp Rugby Club. The Elevation club expresses their immense gratitude towards the rugby club for allowing the frisbee events to take place on their fields.
Andrew says that the vision of Elevation will not change. It’ll continue to “create a platform where people can get together socially from all walks of life”.
The Elevation’s competing club will remain static for the rest of the year as national competitions are only expected to resume in 2021, following the pandemic. Andrew says, “For now the club will focus on cohesion and enjoying the game for what it is in order to be able to work on performance”.
A definite yearning certainly bred strong amongst the inactive players during lockdown. Enthusiastic club player, Jan-Dirk Boshoff, states: “I miss the runs, the ups and the downs and the heart of the team”.
Andrew kindly invites everyone, boys and girls, to come and enjoy the frisbee exercise that makes for terrific workout and fitness. Social games take place on Tuesdays from 16:30 till 18:00 at the Potch Dorp rugby club.
