The entire country waits in anticipation for the official verdict regarding the national banking strike that could potentially take place this coming Friday (27 September).

The strike, arranged by SASBO, the biggest financial union, is due to the restructuring of several banks and the digitisation of traditional banking systems. This has led to retrenchments within the banking sector.

The Herald spoke to several banks in Potchefstroom, but they do not have answers about the strike or know whether they will be closed or not. The labour court still needs to decide whether the strike will be allowed to take place.

Banking Unity South Africa (BUSA) is opposing SASBO in court today to interdict the strike.

Predictions have been made that if the strike does follow through, it will only take place on Friday and not the entire weekend.

The Herald will keep the community updated as soon as further information is made available.
