Police crack down on drunk and driving – 20 arrests

This past weekend, on 16 and 17 August, the South African Police Service and the Traffic department held a joint operation in Ikageng.

This past weekend, on 16 and 17 August, the South African Police Service and the Traffic department held a joint operation in Ikageng.

According to Sergeant Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng police spokesperson, road blocks were set up.

“Cars were stopped and drivers were asked to blow into breathalysers. Those who were above the limit were arrested and taken to Potchefstroom Hospital to retrieve blood samples,” said Sgt Trom.

Those arrested were charged with “drunk and driving”.

In addition, Ikageng SAPS weekend successes are as follows:

Kamohelo Matlakala was also hit by a car Saturday morning and unfortunately died on Tuesday. A case of culpable homicide and driving under the influence is being investigated.
