Boys High impress in major soccer competition

The sub-district championships were held at Promosa Stadium on 24 July, where PHSB finished second to Seiphemelo Secondary School.

Potchefstroom Boys High (PHSB) recently competed in the COPA Coca-Cola soccer competition.

They have achieved some encouraging results against some of the top teams. The competition is for schools that have learn-ers under the age of 15 (born 2004 and 2005). All the schools in the JB Marks sub-district were divided into different streams. PHSB was in stream A in Potchefstroom and by the end of the second term the boys were at the top of their stream with seven wins and only one draw.

They then went through to the sub-district finals where the winners of the streams faced each other to determine the sub-district champions. The sub-district championships were held at Promosa Stadium on 24 July, where PHSB finished second to Seiphemelo Secondary School. The two schools pro- ceeded to the district finals that were held on 27 July in Potchefstroom.

PHBS finished second at district level. Unfortunately the boys could not proceed any further with the tournament as only district winners were allowed to advance to provincial championships. The boys played with lots of heart and showed great character throughout the competition.
