A top-class century from the North West Dragons opener, Kagiso ‘Jonty’ Rapulana secured a fantastic 28-run victory for the Dragons in their CSA Provincial One Day match against Gauteng at Senwes Park on Sunday.
From the start, Rapulana was like a soldier on a mission in his 104 (103) that included 15 fours. Together with Marco Jansen (43 off 32), a 60-run partnership for the ninth wicket gave North West the momentum they needed to put on a total of 233 all out.
The top bowlers for Gauteng were Nono Pongolo (3/42) and Delano Potgieter with (2/40). In reply, Gauteng could only compile 205 all out as the Dragons bowlers kept the lid on the visitors’ batting line up. Jansen shone with the white ball in hand, taking 3/29 in 6,5 overs. The captain, Brady Barends, also contributed with 2/41 with Rapulana also taking 2/22.
Shaylen Pillay was the only Gauteng batsman who managed to get some runs but his 75 was in vain as North West put up a fantastic performance with the ball in hand.

•This one-day performance stood in stark contrast to the Dragons’ performance in the three-day CSA Provincial encounter against Gauteng, which they lost by ten wickets. Gauteng scored 438 all out with Joshua Richards (145) and Delano Potgieter (128) getting big centuries. Jovaun van Wyngaardt was the Dragons best bowlers taking 4/41.
The Dragons managed only 164 all out in their first innings before hitting 285 all out in their second innings. It was not enough, however, as Gauteng cruised to an easy ten-wicket win, needing only 14 runs for victory.
