Inspired by all the hype surrounding the ongoing ‘67 Blankets Campaign’, Sparkling Auto Care Centre’s Shine Foundation has decided to take action and make things happen.
As part of the company’s outreach programme within the Potchefstroom area, wool and needles were bought for staff members at the Sparkling Auto outlet.
The team of enthusiastic knitters are feverishly busy clicking needles and hope to have at least 20 completed blankets by 30 June 2015. They are determined to keep the people of Potchefstroom warm this winter and are appealing to the community and friends of Shine to drop off knitted or crocheted squares at their premises at 31 Walter Sisulu Avenue. Wool is also available from Shine. “Shine has been involved with Mandela Day projects since July 2011,” explained Marissa Esterhuizen, who has taken charge of the project.
“The support towards Shine’s Christmas Box Project has been phenomenal and hopefully we can make the same kind of difference during the upcoming chilly months.” In light of Mandela Day on 18 July, the Shine team will take stock of all their squares and blankets at the end of June before handing over the blankets in July. “Just think how many squares can be done if every friend of Shine only does one ball of wool,” laughed Esterhuizen.
Those who wish to contribute should contact Marissa at (018) 293 3970 who can also give details on sizes. Donations of squares, knitted/crocheted blankets and balls of wool can also be dropped off at Romy’s Habby (near Turkstra) and the Potchefstroom Herald offices, c/o Piet Uys and Govan Mbeki Road.
