A 39-year-old man was arrested for culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol at about 20:18 on Sunday after an unidentified pedestrian was found dead at an accident scene.
According to WO Mpho Manyoba, the Potchefstroom Police spokesperson, the police received a complaint of an accident on the Potchefstroom-Klerksdorp Road.
‘On arrival the police found two legs lying apart on the road. The torso of the deceased was discovered inside the vehicle on the front passenger seat. The driver of the vehicle reeked of alcohol and could not stand properly. He was arrested on the scene,’ said Manyoba.
A community member of the informal settlement next to the road who was at the scene explained that the man was probably crossing the road when he was hit by the car. ‘He was hit at high speed because the legs of the victim were strewn on the road, while his body ended up in the car with the driver,’ he said.
