A local ‘prophet’ has allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman, claiming to be healing her.
The young Kenyan national’s nightmare occurred in Ikageng on 12 January. She plucked up the courage to report the crime last Wednesday.
According to Const. Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, the Ikageng police are investigating a case of rape.
On her mother’s recommendation, the victim consulted the prophet about a foreign object that was stuck in her vagina. He came to see her at her home on 12 January.
After telling her to remove her clothing, he performed and repeated a ritual that involved cooking oil, a piece of cloth and a glass of water. When she told him that nothing had happened, he started fondling her and proceeded to rape her, saying he was helping her. When it was all over, he claimed that she had been healed and that the object was no longer in her body.
After performing another ‘ritual’, he put the cloth in a plastic bag and said he was taking it to the mountains. He then left her in the house.
According to Trom, the police arrested the prophet last Friday.
