7-month-old baby boy dies mysteriously

A 7-month-old baby boy died mysteriously while in the care of the nanny in Ikageng last Friday.

According to Kelebogile Trom, the Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, the nanny is still baffled and shocked at the death of the baby.
Trom says the police received a call  at about 14:55 on Friday. On arrival, they met with the nanny who explained the events leading up to when she realised that something was very wrong.
“According to the SAPS report, the nanny gave the baby a bottle of milk, put him on the bed and tried to change his nappy. While doing so, she noticed that the child, who is usually lively and playful, appeared to be weak and quiet. She tried to play with him but he remained unresponsive.
“She then called an ambulance, and the paramedic declared the baby dead,” Trom reported.
Trom says the baby was taken to the Potchefstroom mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. She described the incident as tragic and a devastating loss to the family.
In another incident, earlier this year, an 11-month baby girl tragically drowned in a bucket while in the care of an aunt who also looked after two other children.
At that time, Trom said the woman was busy cleaning the house while the three children were asleep in the bedroom. When she went to check on the children after washing the dishes, she found the baby in the 25-litre bucket of water she had used earlier to mop floors. It was too late for the woman to resuscitate the baby.
