NWU paddlers take on Clean Water Challenge

The Standard Bank Clean Water Challenge is a two day race covering a 35km section of river.

Over the weekend 28 and 29 September,  the Standard Bank Clean Water Challenge took place in the beautiful Free State province.

A two day race covering a 35km section of river with major rapids and tricky currents, corners, and rocky sections from Reitz, to Tweeling twice.

Kanya Stofile and Martin Prins from North West University completed the challenging race in a double K2, finishing as 13th Under 23 team in 6h29 minutes!

The race was recognised as the Gauteng K1 River Championships ie an opportunity to select a team to represent Gauteng at the South African K1 River Championships event which will be announced in due course.

Tuks University Students had a marvellous time enjoying the rapids with Emma Hatfield and also Amy Hulett finishing in their K1s (Kayak single) as first females, both Under 23 and also in 4h59 and 5h07 minutes respectively over the two days!!
