NW Underwater Hockey cleans Potch Dam swimming pool

Potch Dam swimming pool has been clean for the past three weeks after NW Underwater Hockey and NW Aquatics emptied their pockets to buy chemicals.

The municipal pools have been a thorn in the flesh of the North West (NW) Underwater Hockey Club for some time as the municipality does not clean or maintain them properly.
The NW Underwater Hockey chairperson and head coach, Pamela Mackor, was excited to announce that the combined efforts of the NW Underwater Hockey and the NW Aquatics team had ensured the pool at Potch Dam was clean. “Parents and members put their money together, and we could buy chemicals to clean the pool. We poured the chemicals into the pool on 15 March; it is still clear.”

Mackor exclaimed they had never been able to see as well underwater as they do now.
“Some of our players are going overseas; this gives them training time as they can get into the clean water.”
Mackor adds that they are excited for the community to be able to swim again, as the pool is now clean and safe to use.
Mackor stated in a previous interview with the Herald that it was crucial to take care of the town- and dam pools in Potchefstroom as they are Olympic-sized, and the NW Underwater Hockey Club and NW Aquatics use the pools.
