CBD Taxi Rank Hawkers to apply for new permits

From April 1st no hawker without a permit will be allowed to trade.

Central Business District (CBD) Taxi Rank stakeholders such as taxi owners and traders were recently part of a meeting where the sustainability through safety of the CBD taxi rank was discussed.
All current traders and hawkers were advised to reapply for stall permits not just in the CBD taxi rank, but the entire town. It was determined that no hawker without a permit will be allowed to trade from the 1st of April 2024. In doing this the process of allocating stalls can be streamlined which will ensure fairness and transparency. Ward councillor Jeanne Adriaanse lead the meeting.
This meeting between stakeholders serves as a significant step in creating a safer CBD for all.
It was pointed out that the CBD plays a crucial role in facilitating the movement of food and people, and that all stakeholders play a role in keeping the CBD taxi rank safe and well-organized.
The application process for obtaining a hawker permit was identified as a key area to ensure safety and sustainability.
Crucial matters that related to the application of a hawker permit was discussed during the session, as well as matters related to a more inclusive and vibrant CBD taxi rank.
J.B. Marks Municipality wishes to create an efficient system where stakeholders and the community will benefit from by having clear and established guidelines and procedures for permit applications.
