Municipality working on water shortage issues

Water tankers are available as a temporary measure to supply water across affected areas.

A leak at the water treatment plant is contributing to the current water shortages in various areas of Potch and Ikageng. According to municipal spokesperson Jeanette Tshite, repairs are underway at the identified spot of the water treatment plant.

“The J.B. Marks Local Municipality is working non-stop to find more systemic flaws that could be the root cause of water shortages. We calibrated our metering system at the water treatment plant as part of corrective efforts to ascertain actual outputs. We will also do calibration at all the reservoirs,” stated Tshite.

On Tuesday, 20 February, the executive mayor, Gaba Thithiba Ka Qhele, had already summoned teams from various water sections to investigate the cause of the problem. The director of technical services, Mr Jack Monnakgothu and the municipal manager, Mr Kgomotso Kumbe, led the teams during the fact-finding missions. Teams from the electricity section were also dispatched to the main water plant to check if any electricity-related problems could have contributed to the water shortages.

“There is a slight improvement in water levels of all the reservoirs. The municipality apologises to residents who have been affected for the inconvenience caused by water shortages,” added Tshite.

Water tankers are available as a temporary measure to supply water across affected areas. Residents needing assistance with water tankers should contact 018 299 5408 for assistance.
