Photos: Protestors let their voices be heard in front of municipality

The protestors are represented by various members of steering committees in informal settlements, who demand answers for lack of service delivery in their communities.

A group of protestors from Ikageng extension 7 and 11 are currently in front of the municipal building in Wolmarans Street demanding feedback from the executive mayor regarding service delivery in the municipality.

Protestors made their way from Ikageng early this morning (Thursday, 30 November) around 05:00 burning tyres in Ikageng and sections of Potch Industria along the route, before settling in front of the Dan Tloome Chamber, where they also burned tyres in Wolmarans Street.

The police are on the scene monitoring the situation.

According to NW police spokesperson, Col. Adele Myburgh, the N12 is currently open for traffic and is not affected by the protest. Roads in Sarafina are blocked by protesters in that area.

The protestors are represented by various members of steering committees in informal settlements.

“We have no electricity, running water or schools. Nono Maloyi, the MEC of Cogta (Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs), needs to come here to listen to us. We were given promises. We are here to seek answers” stated Mokoena Letsie, one of the members of the steering committee.
