Ferdies leadership on fire to inspire
Ferdinand Postma elected their head boy and head girl for the 2023-2024 leadership term.
Ferdinand Postma High School announced their Head boy and Head girl for the 2023-2024 leadership term on 18 October. Zenei Reynders and Isak Hitge was appointed as head girl and head boy.
Zenei says she did not expect it at all. “Shock,” says Zenei, with a still-surprised expression. “I started at Ferdies beginning of this year. I’ve only been here 10 months and now I’m head girl.”
After three terms as a Ferdies SCR-member, Isak Hitge was not too surprised, but remains thankful. “I expected to be head boy as everyone was telling me that I would be. When I was announced as head boy I experienced immense joy,” Isak says with a smile.
Zenei is passionate about arts of performance and participates in public speaking and English play. “Growing up I was extremely introverted, I hated giving speeches and standing on a stage. All that’s changed now,” Zenei says with a smile.
Mathematics and sports make Isak tick. He participates in athletics, cross country, hockey, and duathlons. He participates in Voortrekkers as an extra-curricular activity.
As a member of the Ferdies Executive committee, ‘Ferdies Pulse’, the cultural committee was appointed to Zenei. As a leader, Zenei would like to make people feel comfortable in expressing their opinions on matters. “I like it when people give me ideas, I like to delegate everyone according to their abilities and achieve these ideas.”
Fuelled by his passion for Mathematics and Academics, the Academic committee was appointed to Isak. “I hope to motivate people to do their best, to achieve more than they believe they are able to,” Isak explains.
Zenei enjoys spending time with family, doing adventurous stuff, and playing gholf. She plays gholf as a school sport.
When Academics and sports are less pressing, Isak likes to go fishing. “The best fishing I’ve done was at Boskop Dam,” he says with fisherman’s-pride.
Both Zenei and Isak hopes to inspire as leaders. Isak wants to generate ‘gees’ in Ferdies, “I want to establish a Ferdie-pride within every Ferdie,” he explains. “I hope to leave behind a legacy, something that people can look back on and remember,” Zenei concludes.
