A late second half surge by Steinhoff Vishuis (Kovsies) from Bloemfontein was enough as they snatched a 37-29 win over the Steinhoff Patria Blues (NWU-Puk) in the final of 2016 Steinhoff Koshuis Championship. Steinhoff Patria held a 21-16 lead at half time and extended their lead further early on in the second half as they led 29-16 after 46 minutes. But the final 20 minutes all belonged to the men from Bloemfontein as they scored three more tries, the final one three minutes from time, to win the encounter.

Steinhoff Vishuis’ composure and urgency in the final stages was too much for Steinhoff Patria and the team from Potchefstroom had no answer for the Steinhoff Vishuis attack. André Pretorius had a great season as head coach, ably assisted by Leopards flanker, Juan Language. The team played fantastic expansive rugby and were a joy to wastch. It was a pity that things had to unravel for the Blues in the second half. Steinhoff Vishuis though ended their season undefeated and collected their R25,000 cheque from Steinhoff – just rewards for their efforts this season. Steinhoff Man of the Match: Ruben Heymans (Steinhoff Vishuis) Scorers: Steinhoff Patria: 29 Tries: Timothy Prince, Jaco Buys, HJ du Plessis, Almeru van Wyk Conversions: Christopher Arries (3) Steinhoff Vishuis: 37 Tries: Dawie Venter, Ruben Heymans (2), Mick Carroll, Nelius van Heerden Conversions: Henco Posthumus (4)
