Heavy rainfall a major reason for occurrence of brown water during festive season

The water quality monitoring service in reservoirs will continuously be conducted on daily basis. This includes regular flushing of the network to ensure that the health of residents are not compromised.

The JB Marks Municipality is advising residents to let their taps run for a couple of minutes if they experience brown water this festive season.

“From time to time when there are heavy rainfall, due to environmental factors, the Water Treatment Works receive high volumes of raw turbid water from the Boskop and Potchefstroom Dams.
The presence of sediments in the network due to raw turbid water from heavy rainfalls changes the colour of water to brown,” stated J.B. Marks Municipality spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

“Brown water is mostly experienced in the early hours of the morning. Members of Community are therefore advised to flush their taps for some few minutes before they utilize water and if the challenge persists, they should immediately report the matter to the Municipality at 018 299 5408,” added Tshite.

The water quality monitoring service in reservoirs will continuously be conducted on daily basis. This includes regular flushing of the network to ensure that the health of residents are not compromised.

“A “Water Boil Alert” will be communicated to the community anytime whenever water is not suitable for human consumption,” ended Tshite.
