Table-topping Dragons ready for Boland Rocks

The left-handed batsman and spinner Senuran Muthusamy has also been one of the standout players for the Dragons, with the most runs (176) for his side. Leg-spinner, Caleb Seleka (7 wickets) has been the most successful wicket-taker for the Dragons.

Pulsating is one way to describe the North West Dragons in this season’s CSA One Day Cup. Whether they are defeating their opposition comfortably or by the skin of their teeth, this team has shown they are here to put on a show in their grey and maroon kit.

This was evident during the past week as the Dragons claimed an easy 79-run win against the Dolphins and a nail-biting three-wicket victory off the final ball against the Knights to stay unbeaten in pole position, with 15 points on the log.

Both matches were away fixtures and typified the fighting mentality of the Dragons team, which has been lacking somewhat in the longer format of the game this season. It seems the coloured kit and limited overs bring out the best of this squad of game-changing players.

The Dragons’ next encounter is against the Boland Rocks at the J.B. Marks Oval in Potchefstroom this Friday, 25 March.

A fourth win in a row is on the cards as they face a team whose form has been up and down lately. The home crowd and familiar conditions should spur the Dragons on to extend their lead at the top of the table and book a crucial home final.

Lesego Senokwane will want to continue his form with the bat on home turf.

Dragons’ all-rounder, Duan Jansen, showed nerves of steel against the Knights with a boundary off the last ball to win the match for his side. He has also been in top form with his bowling at the top of the innings.

“It felt really great to hit the winning runs. I am glad to have helped the team to keep the momentum going into our next match,” stated Jansen.

He is also emphasised that the Dragons are focusing on one game at a time and not getting ahead of themselves.

The left-handed batsman and spinner Senuran Muthusamy has also been one of the standout players for the Dragons, with the most runs (176) for his side. Leg-spinner, Caleb Seleka (7 wickets) has been the most successful wicket-taker for the Dragons.

Boland will rely on their talismanic captain, Pieter Malan and experienced campaigners like Stiaan van Zyl, Shaun von Berg and Hardus Viljoen to pull through in a must-win game for the Cape side.

The match starts at 13:00. Tickets are available on www.ticketpros.co.za.

Recent amended level-1 regulations also means that 50% of stadium capacity can be filled for the match.
