Dirty water attracts flies to family home

A family in Mogotsi Street, Ikageng, which asked to remain anonymous, says they are tired of the dirty water leak right next to their home.

A family in Mogotsi Street, Ikageng, which asked to remain anonymous, says they are tired of the dirty water leak right next to their home.

One of the residents says the issue has been going on for as long as she can remember but it got worse last year.“We aren’t sure of the cause but we figured the water runs from Bothoka High School and all the way down to our street,” she said. “You guys [the Herald] have an even better view of it. Most of the time, the drain doesn’t work and the water ends up all over the place.”

The complainant added that she was demotivated upon reporting the matter to the municipality. “The phone either goes straight to voicemail or, if you’re lucky enough to have someone answer, they’re all in a meeting. It’s just ridiculous,” she lamented.

Another family member added that although the municipality is playing duck and dive, they are aware of their situation. “We see them here from time to time but we can’t say what they do, because the situation is still the same after they leave. The only useful thing we have seen them do is unblock the drain, yet they fail to stop the actual leakage,” he reported.

“This is unacceptable. The flies attracted to the water get so bad that we’ll end up eating them if nothing gets done,” he continued in frustration.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but none was forthcoming in time for print.
