The Brazilians needed this result after a stuttering midweek goalless draw at home to Polokwane City and remain firmly among the title contenders at this early stage of the season.
“It was much better than on Wednesday,” said Mosimane.
“Sometimes the goals might not come but sometimes they come, you have to be patient and keep encouraging the boys. What happened on Wednesday I have never seen things like that, with balls hitting the post and coming out.”
Sundowns went in front early against struggling United. Themba Zwane, in the Bafana squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, turned and fired home a cool finish in the ninth minute.
“I am happy for Zwane, he is scoring goals and that is why he is back in the national team,” added Mosimane.
United fought hard and kept themselves in the running up until the 66th minute, when Tebogo Langerman charged forward from left-back and hammered a terrific finish past Virgil Vries.
“”Langer”, he’s been missing them, he comes inside there on the left, he missed one in the Free State nearly the same … I tried to freshen up the team, I brought on Langerman … I brought on Mbekile … I brought on Surprise,” said Mosimane.
And it was Surprise Moriri who put the icing on the Sundowns cake, blasting into the roof of the net in the final minute.
Maritzburg coach Clive Barker admitted that the better team had won on the day.
“They deserved it, they are a classy team, they have nice depth and they deserved to win and win comfortably,” said Barker, whose side remain bottom of the table, with just a point from eight matches.
