Komphela doing things his way at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has started making his presence felt in the Amakhosi camp – a source at Naturena has informed Phakaaathi that the former Under-23 mentor is now using “his own” players.

Komphela’s decision to leave out the club’s biggest signing of the season, Siyanda Xulu, and start either Lorenzo Gordinho or Ivan Bukenya in central defence has raised seceral questions.

He is also said to prefer Edward Manqele and Camaldine Abraw ahead of the likes of stalwarts Siphelele Mthembu and Bongani Ndulula.

“He wants to use players who will fight for him, he knows he needs consistent results if he is to stay at Chiefs. Manqele and Abraw were his signings, and he knows Gordinho as he recommended him to Free State Stars. He is also waiting for Daniel Cardoso to recover from his injury so he can take the left-back position,” revealed a source close to Komphela.
