Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits defender Siboniso Gaxa is on the verge of joining Ajax Cape Town.

Gaxa, who is a free agent after Wits decided against renewing his contract, has been training with Ajax for some time and coach Muhsin Ertugral says he could be offered a contract soon.

“I think he will sign with us. His experience is something you can’t buy. He is an international player. If you look at our situation we need someone with experience at the back,” Ertugral told IOL.

“Going forward we are looking good, but we have been conceding goals. Gaxa hasn’t played since October. We are currently assessing his fitness.

“He has been playing at professional level for more than 10 years, which is rare at this level in South Africa. We have to see how quick we can get him to be available. We need to double up his sessions so that he can meet the fitness demand of other players,” Ertugral explained.
