Free State Stars have signed former Orlando Pirates defender Rooi Mahamutsa as well as Thamsanqa Teyise as they look to strengthen their defence.

The defenders have been training with Stars for some time, and they impressed coach Giovanni Solinas and his technical team.

Now Stars’ general manager Rantsi Mokoena has confirmed to Phakaaathi that the centre backs have joined his team.

“Yes, it’s true that we have signed both defenders. The defence has been an area of concern for us hence we’ve decided the two central defenders,” said Mokoena.

“It’s unusual for a team to sign two central defenders at this stage of the season, but we had to solidify our defence, we’ve let in too many goals. Hopefully, we’ll get better now and start winning games.

“There are games that we lost that we shouldn’t have, and had we at least got a point from those games, we could be up there on the log standings.”

Meanwhile, Mokoena confirmed to Phakaaathi that Stars will make more signings during the January transfer period.

“We’ll sign a couple of more players during the transfer period. It’s important for us to strengthen the team in order to finish the season in a respectable position.”
