The 28-year-old was supposed to have joined Amakhosi at the beginning of the season, but his former team, Chippa United, said he had signed a two-year extension with them.
Molangoane disputed this and took Chippa to the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber, where he won his case against the Chilli Boys.
“Molangoane is a very good footballer, a top-class player,” Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung said. “I think he will be a fantastic addition to the squad.”
He added: “We are relieved that the matter that held up his transfer has finally been resolved through the PSL Disciplinary Resolution Chamber and he is free to join the club of his choice. We are delighted to finally welcome the player officially to the club. It’s a special moment for him and he deserves an opportunity to play football again.
“We have got a lot of fixtures coming up and we are going to need a deep squad of quality players for that, and we anticipate that Joseph will blend it nicely with his new teammates.”
Molangoane began his professional career with Platinum Stars, where he developed under the tutelage of current Amakhosi coach, Steve Komphela.
He later took his talents to clubs such as AmaZulu, Orlando Pirates and Chippa United.
