A top eight finish is out of Ajax’s reach — a win would only move them one or two positions up. This means Ajax will not be able to defend their MTN8 title next season.
“It’s a bit of a dead rubber really – it’s one of those where I think Wits are pretty safe where they are. It’s one of those games where it is a preparation for next season, to look at what we have and where we are going, and to give more guys a run again and see where we are,” De Sa told the club website.
“We would have liked to be playing for more innate. The game is going to be about a bit of pride and the rest is just preparation for next season,” added the former Orlando Pirates coach.
With Wits guaranteed a runners-up finish, De Sa presumes Gavin Hunt will use fringe players as he plans to do so himself.
“I think Gavin will do a bit of a mixture and I think that he wants to be a bit competitive. I can imagine that he wants to give a couple of players who hadn’t had a run, a chance. It is pretty much the same as us, we all want to play but we have to have our eye on the future,” he said.
“There’s not really too much for them to play for, they’re pretty safe in their position, they can’t go anywhere. But mostly, it’s about the atmosphere and the game itself, everyone wants to play in it.”
