Orlando Pirates’ ace, Oupa Manyisa, has advised the club’s up and coming players to not lose focus by being side-tracked by what’s said about them.

The diminutive midfielder said this after cleaning out at the club’s awards which were held at The Wanderers Club on Wednesday.

Manyisa took home the Chairman’s Award – along with goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa – for the record breaking 51 matches they played last season as the side reached four cup finals including the Caf Champions League.

Manyisa was also honoured by being named Vodacom Player-of-the-Season and the Player’s Player of the Season which saw him receive a R200 000 cheque for his efforts.

“They have to close their ears, open their eyes and play football,” Manyisa said.

“Because when you open your ears you will hear a lot of things about you. But if you close them, open your eyes and play football you can’t hear anyone. You will think and decide for yourself.”

Thabo Matlaba also took home more than one award, after picking up the Goal-of-the-Season nod and the Vodacom Online Player-of-the-Season which was voted by the Buccaneers’ fans.

Meyiwa also won the Golden Glove award for keeping 19 clean sheets in 51 matches while Lennox Bacela won the club’s Golden Boot in his first season as a Sea Robber with 13 goals in 39 games.
