The 2022 Fezile Dabi Cross Country Running League is drawing to a close, with league six taking place on Saturday, 6 August 2022. This will also be the Fezile Dabi District Championship (Formerly Northern Free State), and a final opportunity for athletes to qualify for team selection.
Almost 70 athletes from 13 schools and clubs have already qualified to compete at the Athletics Free State Championships in Bloemfontein in August.
With the final league in this series, and the last chance to qualify for team selection, this is sure to be an event not to miss. Athletes from all provinces are welcome to compete for the championship titles that cover all age groups from seven to 100 years and older.
The championship event is an open event, meaning that athletes can compete for a medal in the top three positions, even if they didn’t run in any of the previous leagues. Podium positions will be awarded in all age and gender categories up to 60 years. Athletes who compete in age groups 60 years and older will be awarded the top three positions for “Senior Grand Masters”.
“We are looking forward to a day of exceptional authentic cross country running by the best runners in our district,” says Pierre Fourie, organiser and chairperson of Parys Multisport.
“Opening up to spectators adds flavour to the sport that we have missed for the past two years. Cross Country Running is a spectator sport that puts you within arm’s reach of the athletes, and it is fantastic to see the sport being restored to its former glory,” says Fourie.
The Fezile Dabi Cross Country Running Championship takes place on Saturday, 6 August. The first race starts at 09:00, followed by a full field of participants in different age categories until early afternoon. The full programme and more information are available at www.fezdxc.co.za
