Rates rebates: Almost time

Rates rebates: Almost time

Qualifying pensioners only have eight more days (until 31 August) to apply to the Ngwathe municipal offices for a rates rebate. To qualify the pensioner must own a property and live on it, but may not own more than one property.

The applicant must be at least 60 years old or receive a disability pension. The household income (of the applicant and spouse) must be less than R8,170 per month.

Rates rebates are calculated as follows:

  • On an income of under R4,300 a month – 100%
  •  R4,301 to R4,850 a month – 60%
  • R4,851 to R7,500 a month – 30%
  • R7,501 to R8,170 a month – 15%.
  • Application forms are available at municipal offices. The completed forms must be accompanied by a certified copy of the applicant’s (and spouse’s) ID document, certified copies of their Sassa cards and a copy of their municipal account statement. If they have bank accounts, copies of their bank statements for the past three months are required. DA councillor, Shirley Vermaak, advises applicants to retain a copy of the application form and ask the municipal official to stamp it. If you need help phone 082 461 3680.
