Cross Country runners turning up the heat

With one eye on the cross country running season objectives and the other on the coronavirus trends, Parys Multisport presented the second league meeting of the Fezile Dabi Cross Country Running League at Koedoeslaagte. The Harriers from Parys Multisport, Parys Primary School, Sasolburg AC and Nedbank RC toed the line on Friday afternoon again, with nearly double the number of competitors than the previous week. Athletes who ran the course at the first league meeting were clearly better prepared and expecting to improve on their previous week’s performances.

With two more league meetings remaining, and 15 athletes already achieving district qualification standard times in their various age-gender categories, it will be interesting and exciting to see who comes out of the woods first at the Free State Provincial Cross Country Championships scheduled to take place later this year. With more clubs and schools entering the Fezile Dabi Cross Country Running League, and three weeks remaining to prepare for League 3, scheduled for Saturday, 5 June 2021, it is expected to see an increase in the level of competition, smaller gaps between competitors and more tension and focus as athletes go faster around the sharp twists and turns of the course.

Entries for League 3 close on Saturday, 28 May 2021. Due to strict health and safety regulations, entries are limited to a maximum of 60 athletes per age-gender category and athletes can only be entered by their respective ASA affiliated clubs and schools.

Parys Multisport thanks the athletes, clubs and schools who enter and support the event and also extends its gratitude to the volunteers and sponsors who make it possible.
