The official parkrun SA news blog this week announced that more five-kilometre events can restart from Saturday, 9 October. The current government guide- lines allow for gatherings of up to 500 people in open spaces like parks. However, given the current legal gathering limits, parkrun SA will not be able to start all remaining events across the country on the same day. Based on the evidence and insight from reopening more than 1 700 events around the world, so far, “we are comfortable that the events we can restart will not be overwhelmed by significantly increased attendance.” Subject to landowner approval and the completion of relevant checklists, a total of 78 five-kilometre events will restart from 9 October. This is according to parkrun SA’s news blog. “We are busy informing all event teams of their current position and hope and expect to be able to restart more events in the weeks that follow.”

“Check the future roster on your local events’ website, look out for any social media requests for help, sign up to volunteer emails and grasp the opportunity to experience the joy of volunteering if you can.” This announcement is good news for locals as the cold weather is behind us for the next several months. Many Parys citizens are already actively engaged in running in the mornings. The Parys parkrun event director, Monica Muller, says she is pleased to announce that the new run route for Parys has been accepted. The old route cannot be utilised anymore due to the non- availability of the Mimosa Gardens park area. This is a permanent change. It is currently not known whether the Parys venue is among the 78 events to be opened on 9 October 2021. Watch this space for future news in this regard. There may also be a change in the name of the event due to the changed route. If so, it will become a new parkrun tourist destination.

Confirmation on this and other related Parys parkrun issues will be updated and communicated via the Parys Gazette and the parkrun website. Last, but not least, is an appeal to all local runners to contact Monica to man critical volunteer positions.
