NW Bowls Spec-Savers PRO10

North West recently hosted their annual Spec-Savers PRO10 Tournament.

North West recently hosted their annual Spec-Savers PRO10 Tournament.

This format is an exciting format encouraging players to draw, where teams of two players play with only two bowls over ten ends and must score as many points as possible. The points allocated are four points for the shot bowl and then one point less for the next three shots, irrespective of own or opposition bowls. A total score of ten points is up for grabs at every end, amounting to a possible one hundred points per game.

This year, 54 teams entered and played in nine sections of six teams per section and played a round-robin format at various clubs in the district on Saturday. The section winners came together at Klerksdorp Bowls Club for a play-off against each other to determine the 2015 Spec-Savers PRO10 winner.

The section winners were last year’s winners, Jakkals Mouton and Carl Smit of Potch Town Bowls Club. Runners-up were Pierre Breitenbach and Pikkie Loots, also Potch Town Bowls Club, Manie and Christine Marais of Lafarge Bowls Club, Errol and Jillian Booth of Klerksdorp Bowls Club, Alan Kirkland and Johan Ferreira also of Klerksdorp Bowls Club, Corrie Breitenbach and Elly van Dijk of Potch Town Bowls Club, Johan Visser and Toy Brandt of Klerksdorp Bowls Club, Henti and Ann Buys of Mafikeng Bowls Club and Henk Prinsloo and Jaco Nel of Parys Bowls Club.

The winners for 2015 are Manie and Christine Marais of Lafarge, after beating Henk Prinsloo and Jaco Nel of Parys Bowls Club in an exciting last bowl final. Third place went to Corrie Breitenbach and Elly van Dijk of Potch Town Bowls Club, after beating Alan Kirkland and Johan Ferreira of Klerksdorp Bowls Club.

This weekend re-emphasised the aim of the game of bowls and that is to draw, draw and draw! The winners and runners-up will be off to the national event at the Wanderers Bowls Club in September, where they will compete with all the district winners.
